A photograph puts one in mind of death. This sentence can be understood in two ways. On the one hand photography represents a state of inactivity and inflexibility, it shows time frozen into immobility, into the eternal present. On the other, it expresses an urge to stop the relentless passage of time, to capture life on paper, enclose it within the frames of a picture and preserve it for posterity. Video, on the contrary, is a living concept! Partially, thanks to vitality so characteristic of this new medium still unlimited by any rules or principles and so euphoric about discovering reality. Video is not interested in showing stability. Neither does it depict the continuance of human existence, the eternity, as opposed to the dynamic concept of time. Video is dynamic but it is also ephemeral and elusive, deprived of the features of fetishistic artefact and too vital to become trapped, shut in any type of figure or form. Video does not mummify the inanimate matter. Rather, it revives, depicts as living what used to be dead. Video resurrects. Instead of preserving images, it records their archetypes caught in the action. It makes use of its own means of expression above all, however, exploits movement, which is the sum total of static photographs, a pulsating sequence of visual energy. By processing images, digital video imposes its own stylistics which revives the inanimate matter. I wish to devote this show to the video works that speak of all that was hidden or dead and came back to life as a result of the revitalizing power of video. The show is intended to transfer the dynamics of the real life experience, the time of recording and projection onto the dimension of the eternal here and now. It is supposed to create a unique mythology, to show the connection between a photograph and symbol, as well as an interrelation between video and myth which is the symbol in action.
